How are Arabica and Robusta different?

Launch article, pending editorial review.

Where they grow

Arabica prefers cool highlands. In Vietnam that means Cau Dat (Lam Dong) and Son La. Robusta tolerates lower, hotter areas, mostly in the Central Highlands.

How they taste

Arabica is brighter and more acidic with a lighter finish. Robusta is bold and clearly bitter, with nearly twice the caffeine. That is why traditional Vietnamese phin coffee is usually Robusta-heavy.

Why most coffee is a blend

Blending takes the best of both: body from Robusta, aroma and finish from Arabica. VOC puts the blend ratio right in the product name — “Blend 70% Robusta & 30% Arabica CĐ” means exactly what it says.

See single-origin coffee if you want to try each variety on its own, or blends if you want a ready-balanced cup.
